It is not only now that the lowly Papaya, through the hit song "Papaya Song," is making the Philippines famous. During the early 1900s, the Philippines became well known the world over for having prolific Papaya trees, thanks to this postcard.

The end to all constipation worries! (Was constipation the real reason why papaya was -- or is -- supposed to be part of the regular diet in monasteries, seminaries and nunneries? I keep forgetting the other reason...)

Our colonial masters also wanted to make us famous for another kind of papayas.
