Isis, Tell your mom that you should come to Baguio to spend the summer. Its too hot there in Manila. What are you doing there kasi?

Ask mom herself she might say yes..

Isn't that the old version of the Pantranco bus before it became the dominant bus line but which later went bankrupt and gave way to Dagupan Bus which in turn has been eating the dust of Victory Liner? Or that red bus could be Dangwa, also fated to fade away from the Baguio-Manila run. Bring me back the old BAL (Benguet Auto Line) anytime!

omygulay! i completely overlooked the most obvious where-has-it-gone-to item in the photo! The river! Wala na nga pala ang supercold, crystal-clear, pre-mining-sludge river running alongside the zigzag, with the Bridal Veil Falls as spectacular highlight along its route!

I think that red bus is a Dangwa, notice if you zoom in that it has no walls, its the bus that has no corridor in the middle. You just enter from the side and choose what row you want.

when i was a kid i feared for people who rode this 'cause i imagined they'd be falling off as the open-sided bus wound its way up the mountains of Zigzag as we called Kennon then.

Actually lahat ng buses noon, open lahat ang right side. the left side was the window side, kaya kung nandun ka at bababa ka, ang daming "excuse me" especially if your row was full, so lahat sila dadaanan mo, until you got to the doorless right side of the bus, which I suppose should also have been called "hulog" side, lalo na't makakatulog ka. The B.T.Co. bus in Batangas plying the Divisoria-Lemery route had a similar construction. I think Dangwa, Pantranco and B.T.Co. were all using the same Ford model.

Hey guys! here's a photo of open-sided buses at the Baguio market:

Anak ng pating! Is that (the future) Camp Allen in the background, punong-puno ng puno? We market children were fond of clambering up the steep, eroded side of that mountain, at the foot of which would later be built the fish section (above which was the carinderia section). Hey, on the left side is one end of the old Stone Building, home of woodcarvings and other "curios".

Pax, I think that the portion you mention in your reply is on the left side of the river going down, the portion in the photo is on the right side. Maybe somewhere along Camp 5 might be it?
