The first Baguio City Hall -- done half-timber style because the city had ran out of logs which were highly in demand then in the mine tunnels during the gold rush -- had ornate beams and interiors, the epitome of the elegant style of the time.
It was one of the casualties of the WW II carpet bombings by the American forces.
The City Hall of today was built after the war during the incumbency of Dr. Jose M. Cariño, the first Igorot mayor (1946-1950) and son of Ibaloi chieftain Mateo Cariño.

Ganda. Elegant is right! Any new Baguio structures we could describe as elegant? I wish! Maybe I'm just not looking carefully enough. There must be some out there!
