That is sad. I love Baguio but, in a way, I'm glad I have a different set of memories of the city far removed from these. Have a Blessed New Year, bro.

Reeks--pardon the pun-- more of gross city mismanagement.

Why blame the tourists?

Actually, this photo was taken on Dec. 17, 2007 at around 10 am.
At a corner of the Lake Drive at that time was a dump track on standby. The staff of that truck seem to be having great leisure at the park.

Your pictures show the terrible mismanagement of the city. What we saw when we were there last month was disheartening. I could not recognize Baguio anymore. I am not sure if anything can be done to improve the quality of life. Who's to blame?

Baguio has definitely changed. It's too crowded already.

Pumpkind is right. It's about the discipline of Baguio citizens.

Councilor Rondez is in charge of the parks. So why is she letting Burnham be like this? Doesn't the mayor care at all? Why not declare Burnham a heritage area like Teacher's Camp? They talk about developing Burnham and they're all excited about it. After that what?

Baguio is bursting at its seams, with a permanent population of more than 300,000 and a transient population of up to 2 million, in city designed for a population of only 25,000. Urban blight is seeping in and even determined efforts to collect garbage fall short. The universities should relocate out of the city center to an educational center within the outlying towns of Benguet. Mayor Peter Rey should lead by example and initiate the relocation of the University of Baguio campuses, owned by his family, to the outlying BLIST areas.

If we cannot even keep Burnham Park in order, how much more for Baguio?

hi manong resty, I am still curious by what Mayor Peter Rey meant when he said that he will implement the BLIST plan by year-end. He made a public statement to this effect and we should take him on his word. As the leading scion of Baguio's political and economic leading family, he should initiate the relocation of the UB campuses if the Bautistas really love Baguio as they profess. This is just in line with the BLIST plan which they say they believe in.

hi jack, not too knowledgeable on the BLIST plan but if it means having an MMDA in Benguet, i'm all for it. we can't have baguio and its neighboring towns moving in different directions. you've touched on this topic yourself and kinda complicated really to get it going.

By my own estimates, UB is a billion-peso-a-year business. That may be a conservative estimate. 10,000 students paying Php100,000 a year tuition is equal to a cool billion. Having gotten so much out of Baguio, the Bautistas should give back by seriously taking to heart the BLIST concept. The heart of the BLIST concept is the decongestion of the city, the dispersal of housing, economic and service activities to the oulying towns of Benguet. The BLIST plan includes the setting up of an educational center in one of the BLIST municipalities, with the schools within Baguio being obligated to transfer their campuses to this educational center.
